The Sarah Reng Ochekpe Corruption Allegation Story

Sarah Reng Ochekpe, former Nigerian Minister of Water Resources (2011–2015), was implicated in a case of money laundering and conspiracy involving ₦450 million. The funds were allegedly part of ₦23 billion distributed by oil companies and Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Petroleum Resources Minister, to influence the 2015 presidential election.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a three-count charge against Ochekpe and her co-defendants:

  • Conspiracy to accept cash payments above the permissible limit.

  • Money laundering.

  • Retention of proceeds of crime

The trial spanned 1,492 days at the Federal High Court in Jos, Plateau State.
