Former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his ex-Commissioner of Finance, Ademola Banu were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 14 counts of alleged N5.78 billion fraud.
Key Allegations:
Illegally spending N1 billion from the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Matching Grant account to pay civil servants' salaries.
Misappropriating N990,545,883.64 from the SUBEB Matching Grant account for loan repayment.
Spending N1.61 billion meant for state security and administration on chartering private jets.
Ahmed individually accused of failing to fill out an asset declaration form upon arrest.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of N100 million each with two sureties.
